Our cover story this month has dealt with in detail how a European rearmament needs a difficult choice between buying guns and continuing to adequately fund butter (social welfare programs).
I will add to this aspect by highlighting another dimension. And that is the need of Europe diluting its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) norms for its Defence Companies.
All told, ESG- compliance frameworks and regulatory bodies seem to have considerably crippled the functioning and output of the European Defence Industry. There are also serious constraints due to what is said to be the “ethical” side of weapons financing, thanks to ESG norms.
