IVE TRAVERSED MANY of India's national parks in my two decades of living in the country, but somehow Ranthambore has always eluded me. So, I was delighted to be invited to visit the park's newest property Aamaghati Wildlife Resort. As a Delhiwala, I was particularly excited as the new highway into Rajasthan is now up and running, cutting journey times significantly. The drive itself is a fascinating exploration of the Aravallis, their granite peaks towering like cathedrals to the desert. Aamaghati Wildlife Resort itself sits smack bang in the heart of the park. In fact, it's the closest to the park entry gate which makes it an ideal location for a safari. Before I begin to discuss the property itself, it's worth stating that the way in which the resort is set up speaks volumes of the great affection the owner has for the park, for its famous tigers, and the habitat. The whole resort is almost a shrine to its surroundings, and it's been crafted with awareness of the locality and a whole lot of deep love. The resort is split into dedicated zones just like the park with elements that echo that particular area of the park. Also, rooms are all initialled with a T, just as the tigers are in the park. In fact, the resort has what can only be described as a village feel to it. Albeit, a luxury one.
