Together, they embody the power of shared dreams, mutual respect and the enduring magic of music.
Childhood Friends to Teenage Sweethearts
Shankar Mahadevan was born on 3rd March 1967, in Chembur, Mumbai. Born to a Tamil Iyer family from Pallakad, Kerala, Shankar started learning Carnatic music from childhood and could play the veena by the age of five. His first music teacher was the veteran Marathi composer Srinivas Khale. In the later years of his life, he attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School (OLPS) in Chembur. He then completed his HSC SIES Sion from Ramarao Adik Institute of Technology by graduating with Computer Science and Engineering in 1988. Despite having a passion for music he didn't pursue a professional career until later in the 90s. Instead, he started working as a software engineer for Oracle. With the release of the musical album 'Breathless' in 1998, Shankar started his musical career with a bang. He then ventured into music direction and became a member of the famous musical trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, which has been making hit music for Bollywood films.
