It's true, everything is bigger is larger than life in this vast state - more than double the size of the UK - than Houston, also the fourth most populous metropolis in America. I was glad to find on my recent return post-pandemic that the many attractions of H-Town, as it's nicknamed, seem bigger and better than ever.

Take the Space Center Houston, probably my favourite museum on earth. Since my last splashdown, they have refurbished the Historic Mission Control from the original 1969 moon landing, with every last detail of archaic monitors and dials including even the celebratory cigar butts in ashtrays. I felt goosebumps as I sat close to where the astronauts' colleagues and families would have heard Neil Armstrong's iconic words as he stepped onto the surface with Buzz Aldrin replayed on a black and white screen.
