I once went on a sunshine holiday to Lanzarote where, of course, local cats immediately noticed I was there. It seems a recurring feature that wherever I go, cats spot me. They stroll up, tail in the air, and tell me their woes in a series of urgent meows. Being a cat-sitter and so dutybound to listen, I respond by instantly dropping to my knees in the street and dealing with their issues in the only way I know how - and that's by stroking their he

Whilst this behaviour was constantly embarrassing for my then teenage daughter, Maya, who'd only recently realised that her dad was in no way "cool", as previously assumed and, contrary to childhood beliefs, should never dance under any circumstances, it's much appreciated by cats, who'd probably quite like my dancing.
