1 Floating Bookshop On The Canal
A world away from the buzz of nearby Kings Cross station in London, and a five minute walk along the peaceful Regent's Canal, you'll find a bookshop with a difference.
Word On The Water is a floating bookshop housed on a century-old Dutch barge. Decked out with trailing plants and flowers, you can enjoy on-board readings and musical performances and it's a paradise for bookworms to browse and buy new and pre-loved books. Open daily from midday to 7pm.
2 The Projectionist's Bar
To find this one, head for the stunning Edwardian Dome Cinema in Worthing. It first opened its doors in 1911 and has since been fully renovated. It's near the pier and easy to find. You won't need a ticket as the movie buffs Projectionist's Bar is open to all during cinema opening hours. There's a monthly film quiz, too. www.domecinema.co.uk
3 Margate's Shell Grotto
This underground grotto is a treat for all the family. Discovered in 1835, it's a magical mystery in itself as no one knows exactly when it was built and whether it was originally a temple or even a meeting place. There's around 21m (70ft) of tunnels to explore, with walls decorated with more than four million shells - though we can't imagine anyone's counted them! There's a small entry fee, £4.50 for adults. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. www.shellgrotto.co.uk
