Practise Saying 'No'

Many people feel exhausted in the run-up to Christmas because they are simply trying to do too much, warns Biokult nutritionist Rosie Millen, who specialises in fatigue and energy management. "Write a 'stop doing' list and include all the things that are zapping your time and energy. Then delegate where you can," she suggests.

Walk Every Morning

A 10-minute walk, first thing, in the natural light, can provide a greater energy boost than an espresso, according to University of Georgia scientists. Make this easier by getting up at the same time every day, even if you've had a late night, suggests Lisa Artis of The Sleep Charity (thesleepcharity.co.uk). "However tempting that lie-in seems, it knocks your body clock out of kilter, which can leave you feeling even more tired."

Watch A Christmas Comedy

A good laugh can do far more than simply put a smile on your face. When participants in a US study were shown 12-minute comedy clips, they reported a decrease in tension as well as an energy boost.
