Want the PERFECT SMILE?

Grin getting you down? You’re not alone. Whether you’re worried about wonky teeth or self-conscious about discoloration, almost 50%* of Brits are unhappy with their teeth, which can impact self-esteem. But with the cost-of-living crisis, expensive oral treatments are probably not an option right now. The good news? There are effective, wallet friendly ways to look after your teeth. Here’s what the experts recommend…

Restore sparkle

The main culprits for stained teeth are red wine, smoking, coffee, tea and spicy foods. But rather than hankering after unaffordable whitening treatments (a professional course can cost up to £600!), consider swapping your daily toothpaste for one containing bicarbonate of soda.

‘Toothpaste with a high level of sodium bicarbonate has been proven to be 100% safe to use and effective at removing surface stains,’ says oral health expert Alessandro Rocchi**. ‘Using this type of toothpaste twice a day can make a huge difference to the colour of your teeth and not only is it much more affordable, you’ll do it without the downsides of using synthetic chemicals.’ Try Arm & Hammer Advance White Pro (£3.50 for 75ml, Boots).

MAKE A STAIN-REMOVING MIX

Combine equal-parts baking soda and water to form a paste, dip in your toothbrush and then brush away any stains. Still use fluoride toothpaste twice daily, to shield against tooth decay.

Get moving to beat that low mood

Look, I know it's November. The days are shorter (like our patience) and darker (like, sometimes, our mood) and moving our body gets pushed further down the must-do list. We hunker down and become insular.
