7 THINGS TO DO IN...PORTO

Porto’s most well-known attraction – port wine – is in its name, but there’s more to this north-western Portuguese city than just the ruby tipple. Situated beside the River Douro and just a two-hour flight from the UK, you’re sure to enjoy the bustling medieval centre, lively bars and seafood restaurants. Plus, to the east of the city, the Douro valley teems with vineyards. Perfectly compact, the city is easy to explore on foot.

1 RIVER VIEWS

Take the 50-minute Six Bridges Cruise from Ribeira, Porto’s Old Town, along the Douro River to orientate yourself. The boats were once used to transport port wine barrels. The bridges themselves are worth the €18 (£15) cruise – the Maria Pia Bridge was designed by Gustave Eiffel. Book at viator.com.
