A WEEKEND IN ST ALBANS

WHY GO?

Regularly touted as one of the most coveted postcodes in the country for its proximity to London, green surroundings and attractive architecture, St Albans is perfect for a mini break. It has Roman ruins at Verulamium Park, a large central market that’s been running for more than 1,100 years, a palate-pleasing food scene and countless pubs. Here’s how to make the most of a long weekend in the city.

STEP BACK IN TIME

St Albans’ Roman connections are visible everywhere you look. The River Ver runs through Verulamium Park, where you’ll find the remains of the ancient city wall. It’s fenced off by a low railing, but this doesn’t detract from what is a priceless slice of archaeological heritage.
