When the Duchess of Sussex finally confirmed the existence of the Netflix docu-series Harry And Meghan in August, she insisted that it was simply her chance to tell her “love story”. We should have all known better.
Now the Sussexes have actually dropped the first three episodes of their six-part Netflix show, what the public has seen is less the fairytale Meghan hinted at and more a full-scale attack on the family they estranged themselves from in 2020.
From the very first trailer, Meghan, 41, and Prince Harry, 38, made it clear that the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 40, were firmly in their crosshairs, with a stern, unflattering image of Kate used prominently.
And in the first episode, Harry takes a clear dig at his brother and sister-in-law, saying, “For so many people in the [royal] family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould, as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with.”
In the second episode, Meghan also paints William and Kate as frosty. Recalling their first meeting, she says, “I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger. I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits... The formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”
Now palace insiders tell Woman’s Day that the prince and princess have taken these slights as “a declaration of war”.
While the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, in which Meghan claimed Kate made her cry, did a lot of damage to the couples’ once-strong bond, the Netflix series takes their bitter feud to the next level.
