(To celebrate twenty years of publishing The Strand, weâre releasing a new Mike Hammer mystery, as well as short stories by John Floyd, Bonnie MacBird, Olaf Kroneman, David McVey, and an interview with the Charles Todd writing team. And fans of Ernest Hemingway will be stoked to read Terry Mortâs analysis of Hemingwayâs long road to Paris. We also have an expanded review section with a young adult reading guide.)
Drawing on the notes left behind by the late, great Mickey Spillane, Max Allan Collins has Mike Hammer on a deeply personal case, a prequel of sorts called âTonight, My Love.â John Floyd, in his eighteenth story for The Strand, sounds a cautionary note about snitching on a criminal in âLucianâs Cadillac.â The multitalented writer, actor and producer Bonnie MacBird gives Lady Hildaâfrom the Arthur Conan Doyle story âThe Adventure of the Second Stainââa chance to explain herself in âLady Hilda Revealed.â In âMilquetoast,â Olaf Kroneman shows how being a jerk can prove hazardous to oneâs health. And David McVeyâs âMacKenzieâs Artisan Ghost Trainâ will have you thinking twice about spooky amusement park attractions. Also, Terry Mort gives us the scoop on the real-life events that led up to Ernest Hemingwayâs World War II short story âA Room on the Garden Side,â published for the first time in the last issue of The Strand. And we have the distinct pleasure of sharing a conversation with the mother-son writing team Charles and Caroline Todd. This wonderful duo, better known as Charles Todd, has skillfully created a hugely successful sub-genre in the form of the World War I mystery.
