Those Responsible For Bottlenecks
Farmgate is one of the busiest spots in Dhaka where thousands of people, irrespective of their professions, have to cross every day. As the area is home to many educational institutions like government and private colleges, high schools, coaching centres and also commercial markets, kitchen shops, hotels and cinema halls, this area remains crowded throughout the day.

Criminal Neglect
Few other people like Bangladeshis claim how respectful they are of the past and show no regard for it in real life. This is true about every aspect of our life from mementoes’ and memories of our liberation to ancient historical artifacts. So however, painful it may sound we should not be shocked that we have shown near criminal neglect of the paintings of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin hosted at the Memorial Museum in Mymensingh.

A decade has been passed since government took move to draft rules on how privately-run health facilities would operate in the country. And the draft is not ready yet. Isn’t it taking too long? Fierce, Fearless, Free: There Will Never Be Another Asma Jahangir
Asma Jilani was all of just 19, when her country’s then-eastern wing declared independence in 1971, and then fought a nine-month war that ended with an affirmation of the new, and a severe indictment of the old. She was the daughter of Malik Ghulam Jilani, a civil servant-turned-politician whose political career was defined by unflinching opposition to martial law, first under Ayub Khan and then more famously the regime of Yahya Khan, reaching a crescendo with the commencement of Operation Searchlight on the night of March 25.

China...Stories From 1971 And 2017
History generally seems to move in circles. It begins at one point and then comes back to its place of origin. The crisis over the Rohingyas appears to be a hint of this truism in our lives. No, it has nothing to do with the Rohingyas themselves. But it does have everything to do with the Myanmar government and the Chinese leadership.
The Final Solution And Appeasing The Perpetrators
The government of Myanmar seems to have come to a definite conclusion that the time for reaching a final solution of the Rohingya issue has already approached. It is most likely that such an apprehension has prompted the administration not to hesitate in following the examples of discarded strong men of the past in getting rid of an entire population that it finds irritating. The stage was already set before the start of the most recent drama.
Seeking Light In A Tunnel
It is instructive to consider the plight of the Rohingya, if at all it is possible, from their point of view. It most likely isn’t exactly, but you begin to understand the scale of their tragic situation by some of the stories you hear from those who escaped, as we did when a team from Dhaka Courier visited the camps in Cox’s Bazar and Teknaf (see next story).
5 Weeks, 507,000 Refugees
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said Bangladesh itself is currently facing a severe crisis due to the influx of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals which made the problem a multidimensional one. He said international peace and security are facing many new challenges. “In addition to poverty and conflicts, other emerging global issues such as climate change and natural disasters, outbreaks of new diseases, discrimination and persecutions, displacements -- all these are posing new threats to the humanity.”
