Adding entertainment and comfort to this long serving Road King ...
In a perfect world, sitting in my garage would be a CVO Road Glide, a Road King Special, a Fat Bob, an FXDR, a Forty-Eight Special, a Ducati Diavel and the new Triumph Rocket 3. But, being far from a perfect world, what we find is a couple of Shovelheads and a 10-year-old Road King.
To be fair it is not just any old Road King, but the one you see on these pages, the Speed King, which editor Brumby owned for about eight of those years until I bought it from him. And in that time it has been thrashed to the max and upgraded with all sorts of external and internal components, most of which have been featured in these pages.
SOUND SYSTEM
I have owned various baggers that came equipped with great sound systems and that is one aspect that I miss somewhat when doing long trips. So when I stumbled onto the Kuryakyn Road Thunder Sound Bar in Sturgis, and experienced the incredible sound blasting from it, I knew I had to have one.
With a peak music power of 150 watts, this MTX product features an internal amp powering two, 2 x 3 full range speakers with a single voice coil and four high-frequency silk dome tweeters with N35 grade magnets. It includes power, ground and ignition wire for easy disconnect, as well as auxiliary input and output for connecting devices via a 3½mm cable. Plus the internal Bluetooth receiver allows wireless connectivity to any Bluetooth-enabled smart phone or music device. If the foregoing techno jargon didn’t mean much to you, just take it from me that the output is pretty mind blowing.
