- Omar Sherief Mohammad

'PPPs, CoEs Are Needed To Practice Precision Diabetes Care'

He assumed his new role with effect from September 23, 2019, and is also serving as a member of the Roche Diabetes Care Asia Pacific Leadership Team. Soon after his appointment, BioSpectrum interacted with him, to find out more about his plans for the company towards addressing the burden of diabetes. Edited Excerpts;

What new strategy is in store for driving the development of integrated diabetes management solutions?

Our philosophy revolves around the patient. We have a 1000 days ambition to 100 years of the discovery of insulin. Diabetes: India and Diabetes are synonymous and the biggest issue is that there are 73 million people with diabetes in the country and only 50 percent of them are diagnosed. Out of these only, 50 percent have access to treatment. Therefore, the number of cases treated is less than 10 percent. Thus we will focus on breaking the rule of halves in diabetes by ensuring we are able to not only diagnose diabetes earlier but also bring access to care for people with diabetes for which we will invest in partnerships to answer the question of how to solve the bigger problem which is at the patient level. We believe, if we control the problem for the patient and the peer and the caregiver, which is the healthcare professional, we will be able to bend the curve of diabetes.

What kind of partnerships or collaborations are you seeking, as part of your strategy?
