The political, economic, social, and technological environment is changing drastically at a breakneck speed. Just as organisations settle down to a set of conditions, the conditions change to unsettle them once again. Changes in the external environment are not new to businesses but what is remarkable today is the pace and impact of these changes. Today, one person, sitting with his laptop, in a remote corner of the world, has the ability to disrupt a giant organization which has been operating successfully for decades.

The ability to react quickly to new circumstances is called ‘agility’ and in the organisational context, it is called ‘corporate agility’. As organisations grow, they become complacent and rigid. They lose this capacity to react quickly to the changed scenario around them. Thus, they are less agile and lose out to competitors who can better adjust to the change.
The corporate graveyard is full of bodies who failed to be agile. The bug affects not only old behemoths like Kodak but also relatively newer technology companies like Nokia. No agility equals ‘no viability’.
