HELLO! discovers its sweet tooth with Confetti, a Mumbai-based brand started by the talented, home baking sibling duo, Priyal & Priyanka Kothari
When did your passion for food start?
Priyal: “While we were growing up, I used to spend hours in the kitchen with my grandmother due to her keen interest in baking. This experience introduced me to my hobby that I spent most of my youth perfecting. I owe a lot of credit to our grandmother as she taught me some of the fundamental techniques that I use today.”
Priyanka: “I was always a foodie at heart. As I began to travel more and more, I realised that the main focus of my holidays was food, visiting restaurant, cafés, pâtisseries etc and devouring everything gourmet that I possibly could. At home, I spent a large portion of my time reading about new culinary methods, recipes and watching various cooking shows from Heston’s Feasts to MasterChef. That’s when I realised that I would love to somehow incorporate food as a part of my career.”
How did Confetti begin?
Priyal: “Baking always remained a hobby of mine. After getting a BA in Political Science at the University of Warwick, I contemplated with my family on my various career options that lay ahead of me. During our discussions, we realised that it would be best to pursue a career in an activity that I truly enjoy that is baking. As a first step, I had to learn certain specialised skills for which I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu, London.”
Priyanka: “I was an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick after which I pursued Investment Banking in London for seven years. However, I was always artistically inclined and spent a large portion of my time designing and painting. Once Priyal moved back, we decided to follow our passion by setting up a business together, where we would combine both our baking and design skills. This led to the conception of Confetti in November 2013.”
