The ‘This Is Us’ star gets real about her difficult childhood and her lifelong body struggles

Chrissy Metz may have received a string of award nominations and wins, but she still hasn’t found the validation in herself that she belongs on the screen.“People are still surprised that a big girl could be on TV, and it’s like, ‘Ugh, really?’” she says. “There’s so much other stuff to talk about!”

Since 2016, Metz has been one of the shining stars on tear-jerker series This Is Us, portraying Kate Pearson, whose ongoing struggles mirror those of the actress.

It’s actually written into her contract that she must lose weight whenever her character’s storylines require it, which she calls a “win-win” situation.

And in a candid new interview, the 39-year-old explains how difficult it’s been for a person who went to Weight Watchers at just 11 to look beyond her appearance.
