THERE it is, in all its glory. The magnificent cedar of St Leonards Road in Windsor, now something of a legend having survived at least three attempts to do away with it during the 200 or so years since the tree first began to form part of the street scene.

The most recent crisis began in the spring of 2011 when the Royal Borough Council announced that it had been advised by loss adjusters to remove the cedar. The problem was that surveys showed it was possibly responsible for subsidence and cracks in the closest properties.
