Location scouting is a vital part of the pre-production stage of filmmaking, and researching which area you want to live in is just as important when it comes to house-hunting in France.
So why not combine the two and use the locations that have been deemed worthy enough to appear on the big screen as part of the groundwork for your property search?
France’s towns, cities and villages are no strangers to being used as film sets and Sarlat, Angoulême and Lescun are the latest to have a starring role in films this year, so just what makes them so magical in the movies and in real life? Settle down with the popcorn and let’s find out....
ON LOCATION IN: SARLAT The Last Duel
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Hollywood royalty Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Ben Affleck, historical drama The Last Duel is based on the book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France by Eric Jager. Matt Damon plays Norman knight Jean de Carrouges while English actress and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer stars as his wife Marguerite.
Set in 14th-century France, The Last Duel tells the story of the fatal battle between Carrouges and his former best friend Jacques Le Gris, played by Adam Driver, who is accused of attacking Carrouges’ wife. The film is scheduled for a limited release on 25 December 2020 before it opens on 8 January 2021.
