A Chaotic election rally, manic tweets, bizarre claims, paranoia – even by Kanye West’s standards, this meltdown has been quite spectacular.
Stunned onlookers have been scratching their heads to make sense of it all. Were his outrageous outpourings a cunning ploy to secure his place in the upcoming US presidential poll? A publicity stunt to promote his new album? Or simply a man having a mental health crisis while the world watched?
It could, of course, be all of the above – but the latter definitely ticks the “yes” box.
The 43-year-old rapper has spoken out about his struggle with bipolar disorder before and wife Kim Kardashian “knows he’s sick”, a friend says.
But that hasn’t stopped her from being livid with her husband of six years – and many believe the marriage, which was already apparently wobbling, may not survive.
Kim can’t believe everything that’s happened recently, the friend says. “She’s at end of her rope and trying to decide what to do next.”
It’s a complex situation: Kanye is clearly unwell – yet to say he’s on shaky ground with the formidable Kardashian/ Jenner clan is an understatement.
The latest drama started at a rally to kick off his election campaign in Charleston, South Carolina.
A rambling, tearful Kanye, wearing a bulletproof vest and with “2020” shaved into his head, claimed Kim wanted an abortion when she was pregnant with their eldest child, North (7).
“My dad wanted to abort me,” the weeping star said. “My mom saved my life. There would’ve been no Kanye West because my dad was too busy.”
