Jameela Jamil is not the kind of celebrity you come across every day... It is not easy to label or confine her. An actor, writer, TV host, activist, and the Founder of I Weigh, a movement that celebrates body positivity and self-love, she has been a warrior when it comes to women’s self-image and safety. Jameela actively uses her social media platforms to air her honest views, and remains undeterred even after sparking controversies and harsh criticisms along the way.
Known to consistently post untouched images of herself online—with cellulite, wrinkles, scars et al—The Good Place actor has been one of the few vocal critics of ‘celebrity culture’, even calling out the likes of Kim Kardashian West for promoting false beauty standards. Jameela, who is of Indian and Pakistani descent, has come a long way from the 12-year-old girl who was bullied for her height and appearance. And today, she is an ambassador for The Body Shop’s global Self Love campaign...and we aren’t surprised! Read on to learn more...
Cosmo: Tell us about your recent association with The Body Shop.
Jameela Jamil: “I love The Body Shop because it was the first brand I ever had access to as a teenager, when it came to beauty. I just fell in love with the way their products made me feel. I liked that they had diverse and more authentic advertising, which I didn’t see anywhere else at the time. I could even see the pores on the models in the adverts.
