A woman’s love affair with her favourite handbag cannot be easily explained. More than a mere accessory, a good handbag is a safety blanket, a form of identity and for some, a keepsake to be passed down to the next generation. Fans of Louis Vuitton appreciate the way that its signature Capucines handbag brings together the house’s various codes — structured, sturdy, elegant and refined. First introduced during the FW’13 season, this luxurious yet versatile full leather tote, has quickly become one of Louis Vuitton’s most-loved bags.
Since its 2013 release, the Capucines has been reimagined in various incarnations that have included leopard prints, ruffled handles and even printed and embellished straps, to lend each bag a distinct sense of individuality. Beyond that, Louis Vuitton has also introduced the Artycapucines capsule, which presents the bag as a blank canvas upon which artists can flesh out their own unique visions. For this project, the brand has worked with artists that include Henry Taylor, Beatriz Milhazes, Urs Fischer, Zhao Zhao, Jean-Michel Othoniel and Tschabalala Self.
This year marks the third Artycapucines collection, and signals a reaffirmation of the brand’s commitment to championing the highest levels of craftsmanship. Louis Vuitton is working with six new artists to create 2021’s six limited edition designs. Just 200 pieces of each design will be on sale at the end of October, ensuring that each bag will be a true collector’s piece, rare and not easily found worldwide. Here are further details on the six artists and their stunning creations.
