But that doesn’t mean he is not a well-versed designer. Because it was ever since his college days at NIFT, SAMANT CHAUHAN had decided his work to speak rather than his clothing or his roots from Bihar. Though he never had a tough time in terms of his association with the state, but he came across incidents and it was then he decided to bring the Bhagalpuri silk to the mainstream fashion and as they say rest is history. While 35-year-old Samant Chauhan, CEO and owner, Samant Chauhan label was busy managing his new store at Shahpur Jat he agreed to share his journey details and his long term plans for his native state.
How did designing happen to you?
Though I am physics graduate, but it was my father who always wished to see me associated with art world. So I think it was his vision that took me to the world of designing. And then I applied for NIFT and did my high studies at Delhi centre in Knitwear designing. Recently when I was at home my mother was showing me a bag that I made when I was in class 7, and I used that bag till my college days. I was amazed to see what I did at that age, in terms of detailing-shoulder pad and small pockets. After looking at it I realised I was destined to be in the designing industry for good reasons, all credit goes to my father who became the force behind it.
People from Bihar are considered very differently in the industry. How difficult it was to establish yourself.
