Péro continues to make modern interpretations inspired by traditional textiles. For its SS’19 collection, there is a touch of Nemo to it.

From marking little details as to its signature to handcrafting elements, Péro lends a fresh spin to old favorites from the wardrobe. This time, they seek inspiration from marine life. We spoke to the designer Aneeth Arora, the brain behind the brand about how travel inspired the latest collection.

What is the difference between Indian and international buyers?

A lot of international textiles are inspired by traditional Indian textiles, techniques, and silhouettes. For instance, Angrakha from Gujarat, an Indian customer looks at it, with the idea of an ethnic Indian silhouette, but a person living overseas has a different way of looking at it. For them, an Angrakha would be an over the jacket, which they can pair with jeans. So, they look at things completely outside the context, which makes the product more versatile. We are doing well in Europe, Japan, and the US, and now India is also at par.

Can you tell us about the fabrics being used?

Every season, we use a mix of 50 fabrics from different regions of India. Depending on the technique we want to use in that season, we work with block prints, créme print and it is not constant for next season. We might change the technique or the region, but some of the basic textile works remain the same and we keep changing the color palette.
