For this leggy lass, modelling was never an option. Belonging to a family of physicians, Pritika Swarup always thought that she would end up being a doctor herself. But as luck would have it, Daryl (now her manager), scouted her when she was on a vacation with her family at Disney World in USA. And once this incredible opportunity presented itself, she decided to give it all. Today, she is one of the most successful models based in New York. This is her story.
Modelling is a challenging profession. How do you cope?
My relationship with my parents has helped me survive the challenges of being a model. They are extremely supportive and never hesitate to tell me if I should do something differently. I think the mantra for lasting longer in the fashion world is not to worry too much about the small things and enjoy the moment.
Modelling world is evolving, becoming more inclusive in terms of selecting models with different body types, size and skin colour. What is your take on it?
I believe that the modelling industry, like other societies in general, has opened up to the idea that there is no set body type, size or skin colour that is beautiful. That’s not to say that we still have more work ahead of us, but I love that so much diversity is being embraced.
Has your experience prepared you for surprises?
Fashion industry is ever changing. There are many factors that you can’t control, so I welcome surprises. A lot of it isn’t what it seems on the surface, so I always try to look at everything deeply. My life experiences have taught me to trust my instincts that has definitely been instrumental to me, both in and outside of the fashion industry.
