Life Is A Mirror

The Givenchy Spring/Summer ‘19 collection plays upon abstract ideas of a mirror; reflecting the past into the modern and female fancies onto male wardrobe notions.

For Clare Waight Keller’s third showing for Givenchy, the artistic director titled its Spring/Summer ‘19 collection “I Am Your Mirror”. Her allusion to the mirror was rife throughout the entire presentation of the collection. The moment guests approached the show venue of Palais de Justice, Paris, they will see the Givenchy name beamed by lights like a banner atop the stairways. There was no confusion there that guests were at the right show, whereby the magic of the mirror will be revealed upon their exit.

Stepping foot into the grand hall of the museum, a single steady stream of white light shines onto the dark marble floor. That served as the guide to the show set, and it remained steadfast after several turns. Guests would have noticed that a mirror was installed at the intersections to direct the light over corners. The show set was divided into a series of rooms draped in painted canvases to mimic the atmosphere of the uncovering of an old house.
