As temperatures soar, so do appetites for frosty ice cream. Brands like Halo Top, Enlightened and Arctic Zero promise healthier versions that slash calorie counts (roughly 300 to 360 calories per pint – about half the amount in regular ice cream) so you can scoop them up with fewer waistline repercussions. But should you? These tempting treats have pros and cons.

Regular ice cream contains more cream – meaning more fat calories – and regular sugar than their low-cal counterparts, many of which contain skim milk and a low-calorie sugar alternative, like erythritol.
