Living and loving life, one competition, unicorn, donut and deadlift at a time...
What do you do for a living?
I recently finished studying and obtained my personal training qualification. I currently work as a sales consultant at Get Fits private gym. On weekends I work as a hostess at night on the La Vue, a boat restaurant in the Durban harbour. I also do a lot of promotional work in my spare time.
Why choose to compete as an IFBB athlete?
I’ve always stuck to the IFBB federation. I like the organisation and rules that are in place. I love the committee, my fellow athletes, and I feel like I have a place in this federation, which is why I’m happy to continue competing under the IFBB.
What first attracted you to the fitness industry?
Fitness helped me out of a bad space. I battled with depression and eating disorders through my late high school years. My doctor was the one who encouraged me to get fit to help improve my moods and appetite, so I gave it a try. I had help from friends at gym and, just as they say, once I started to see results, it became an addiction. I also admired the physiques I saw around me (I do stare at other girls’ butts, I mean who doesn’t?), but it was about more than just physical results, though. My health also improved, as did my state of mind. Ever since then I’ve been addicted to bettering myself and feeling stronger. I honestly cannot see myself living any other lifestyle.
What training split do you follow?
My split changes every 2-3 weeks.
How do you feel about cardio sessions?
They’re not my favourite, but I understand they need to be done. I like to keep my cardio “fun” by doing interval training. I find it helps time go by faster. I enjoy doing interval sprints, or working on the stepper or bicycle.

The Florida Effect: The Power Of Priming On Performance
We all like to think that we are in complete control of our actions, our mindsets, and, subsequently, our performance. But what if that weren’t true? Could it be that the words you hear on the radio or read on billboards or the pictures you see on your way to the change room could affect your subsequent performance in the gym, through their impact on your subconscious mind?Well, it just might, at least according to numerous studies into behavioural psychology that have looked at a concept known as the priming effect.
