As we get up in the morning, there is calm, quiet around - we have had a rested time, we are at peace, we are looking forward to the day enthusiastically.

Uplifting The Mind is More Important

But these things are not much considered. We just get up, see the time, start rushing and one after one the jobs are done. This would even include taking our morning breakfast or doing some Pooja or Asana. There is no mental participation.

There is a little joke one of our teachers used to tell us. He had a fixed time. At 9.30 in the morning he had to catch the fast train to reach Church gate and go to work. One day it so happened that he got up, rushed, complained to his wife that breakfast was not ready, that she does not listen to what he says, then hurriedly left and got into the train and he was happy. Then he got down at Church gate station. The station was empty, there was nobody at the station. He was shocked. He asked the Cooli (porter) what has happened today, why is nobody there on the station. The Cooli gazed at him and sneered, “Today is Sunday. On Sunday’s it is empty.” So the man in his hurry didn’t bother to think whether it is Sunday or which day, because that was the routine.
