Designed by the Pritzker Prize winner himself and made in collaboration with Asian Paints, the concrete-finish cover of the BV Doshi issue is a celebration of the material that the architect has made his own
Within a week of the Pritzker Prize announcement, the line-up for the BV Doshi issue was ready. Given the architect’s prolific career, it was easy to find buildings to showcase and stories that bore telling. We decided to dedicate sections to first-person accounts from those who know Doshi best, congratulatory messages pouring in from around the world, and even a peek into his famed sketchbook; it all came together quickly and serendipitously. All we had to zero in on was a magic cover. Ideas began to flow back and forth but the first piece that fell into place was the material; a concrete cover had never been attempted before but seemed a natural choice given the architect’s oeuvre. We took our plan to Doshi, who was as excited by it as we were.
