Protect Yourself and Your Home When Traveling.

On the Road Again

George Carlin famously said that your home is just a big box that holds all your stuff, and when you travel, you have to pick just the right amount of stuff to take with you.

The key is to protect both your person and your castle while you’re away.

We scoured the world and talked to several experts for the best advice on how to hit the road safely and with peace of mind.

BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Does that time-share in Hawaii look too good to be true? Then it probably  is. When looking for a good travel deal while scouring the Internet for savings, avoid scams that demand fees up front. Research the travel agent or third party organization that is offering you such an amazing deal – it’s better to deal directly with the hotel, cruise line or hotel.

Packing for a trip can be as stressful as the trip itself, but there are lots of “life hacks” that can help. When packing, make sure to travel light. Are you carrying an overhead bag onto the plane? Is it soft, so you can squeeze it into the storage bin, like a backpack? There are great YouTube videos showing you how to maximize the space in your valise. Rolling clothes up, instead of folding them, travels better. You should carry a plastic bag with extra sets of chargers and cables, because losing those on the road will make your life hell. And buying new ones will cost a bundle.

Did you know it’s best to pack mostly dark clothes when traveling? Why? Because they wear better, hide stains and wrinkles and don’t need to be washed as often.
