Finding his niche in the rapidly evolving universe of online travel, Ankush has addressed an aspect of global travel which finds his company empowering the trade fraternity even as it provides consumers with an array of options.
What were some of the inceptive thoughts that led to the formation of Travel Boutique Online?
I started out as an entrepreneur in the year 2000 and at that time the company was a completely bricks and mortar, offline B2B travel company. It was very Delhi-centric with about 30 people in the team, with a decent turnover size and steady growth.
It was in 2005 that I realised, if I don’t go the online way, it would only be a matter of time before I would perish as a businessman. Coincidentally, this was also the time when I met my co-founder of Travel Boutique Online and we spent about 10 months discussing how to go about the online route. And finally, TBO was conceived in 2006.
The decade long journey has been great. In fact, there are times when I sit back and realise, to my surprise, that we are now in 65 countries and we operate 18 international offices. We are headquartered in Gurugram, but our international setup is in Dubai. We have a team of around 650 people and more than 27,000 travel agents buy from us every month.
