The opening episode of Netflix’s new true-crime series Unsolved Mysteries investigates the baffling 2006 death of Rey Rivera, a finance writer living in Baltimore, Maryland, US.

Rey, 32, and his wife Allison had relocated to Baltimore from Southern California so that Rey could work for an investment company, and the couple seemed happy with their new life.

But on May 16, 2006, Allison was on a business trip out of state when Rey stopped answering phone calls. Upon calling a house guest staying with the couple, Allison learned Rey had received a suspicious call and had abruptly left the property without telling anyone. The friend would later tell Allison he left “in a hurry”, as if he was late for an appointment.
