Twenty years ago marked a momentous milestone for Cortina Watch as the luxury watch retailer opened its first Rolex boutique in Kuala Lumpur, strategically situated in the heart of the capital city’s bustling shopping district, Bukit Bintang. When The Starhill – where the Rolex boutique is located – temporarily closed a year ago for renovation, the luxury watch boutique similarly underwent a rejuvenation process before once again opening its doors to the public this year.
References to the Swiss watchmaker’s iconic Oyster are abundant in the refined interior of the boutique, from the distinct green of the seats to the wave motif on the salient emerald aqua wall, creating an ambience that is warm and welcoming. Visitors will find their experience at the boutique serene and comfortable, allowing them to explore the watch collections at their leisure. We spoke to Tay Liam Khoon, Managing Director of Cortina Watch Malaysia, to learn more about the brand’s growth in the country and what the boutique has in store for Rolex enthusiasts.
The reopening of the Rolex boutique at The Starhill is proof that the brand remains sought after in Malaysia, in what way would you say the Rolex customer base in Malaysia has changed or grown over the years?
I notice that our customer base has grown to include younger, more well-informed and researched consumers. I would say that they are a financially savvy and entrepreneurial generation. But what stayed true amongst all Rolex customers in Malaysia over the years is that they resonate with what the brand stands for – excellence. Many of them celebrate milestones and their achievements with a Rolex timepiece.
