Defensive Help Finally Arrives

The Washington Redskins defense received a much-needed jolt of talent, depth and swagger over the offseason. They are, and at least on paper and early on-field indications in August, much better than they have been.

Of course, that shouldn’t be too hard because the entire unit has been significantly short on resources for almost a decade.

The Redskins have over invested in their offense and the results have been mixed on that side of the ball over the last 10-plus years while the defense as a whole has limped to the finish line.

Finally, that philosophy is starting to change.

Last year, it was an aggressive strike to reel in Josh Norman and this year D.J. Swearinger, Zach Brown, Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee were all a part of the Redskins haul.

Finally, a true commitment and plan by the organization to help out.

Swearinger figures to be the most notable addition, even though Zach Brown received more of the headlines.

The Redskins plan to use Swearinger as a true free safety. It’s a position Swearinger feels is his natural spot and where he is best at. His career path to Washington has been filled with some bumps in the road, but make no mistake, this is the most talented safety the Redskins have had since the late Sean Taylor.
