'We Try To Improve Quality Of Training'

...And it is done with the help of virtual reality, said a Dassault spokesperson to K SRINIVASAN. While there is no wastage of time, the process allows learners to get a better view and understanding of an aircraft.

'We Try To Improve Quality Of Training'

Tell us something about your VR training process?

Dassault provides the practical training through something called the Dassault Training Academy. We do two weeks of training and then you get the certification. And so, it is a classroom with one instructor and up to 10 trainees. So, it is 11 people during two weeks practising on the platform to know the procedure, the systems, how to perform operations, etc. And the whole point is that when there are 11 people at the same place and you are the instructor and you are in the cockpit and you want to show them something; it is sometimes difficult to get 11 of them or 10 of the guys in the cockpit at the same moment, and if you want to explain something in the visual way or the mechanical way, you can do it from right there. You just have one person able to go in there and the instructor is repeating himself 10 –12 times just to have everybody have a look and understand what he is showing. So, our idea with this special tool, we have in one big room at the start of the day, the instructor says okay, today we are going to talk about the fuel system first. And they all pick up their headsets and they are all sharing the same visual world with the four digital mock-ups of the aircrafts. So, in this case, probably the Falcon 7X because as you know we design into 3D completely and so it’s the data they use and made by the design office that is used for manufacturing, for maintenance, exactly the same data. And so basically, that is Scale 1. All of them are merged in the visual world, yes. And they all have the feeling of being inside the aircraft as if it was there. And since it is visual, they can do stuff that they cannot do during other training like removing big parts of the aircraft, make a wing transparent to show the students how the actuator is installed or...
