Defying Change, Arambol Stays All Natural!
TerraGreen
|March 2020
Goa, whose skyline was once legendary for its pristine beaches, churches in the countryside and coconut trees lining every stretch visible, has now been reduced to a parody. Tourism and its dizzying after-effects are having a deep impact on customs and traditions in India’s smallest state. In this article, Gajanan Khergamker talks about how Arambol has succeeded in resisting development and retained its vibrant culture and traditions
While the more-famous Calangute and Baga are thronged by crowds hugely insensitive to the environment and locals, it is Arambol that has managed to retain much of its historic glory.
Arambol, also known as Harmal, has historic origins and stands true to its reputation. Known as a hippie beach for the flurry of nature-loving foreigners, yoga aficionados, health buffs and fresh-food addicts, Arambol is a draw for millions and for all the right reasons.
Rich History and Bohemian Inhabitants
The pure spiritual energy that pervades this small fishermen town tucked away in a spot along the northern end of Goa’s coastline is an attraction for bohemian souls from around the world.
