HAVING put some of football’s biggest stories into words, Darren Fletcher is no stranger to plotlines that take the breath away.
However, Fletcher cannot help but be taken aback at the rapid progress made at Notts County in the first year of the Alan Hardy era.
The 42-year-old Nottingham-born broadcaster, who has commentated on Champions League finals and World Cups during spells working for BBC Radio Five Live and BT Sport, officially joined the Magpies’ board of directors at the start of the season.
First-hand, he has witnessed chairman Hardy stave off the threat of administration at Meadow Lane, before watching Kevin Nolan’s men become one of League Two’s shining lights this season.
They also had a tasty FA Cup fourth-round tie at home against Premier League Swansea yesterday after knocking out Championship side Brentford in round three.
Terrific
“It’s beyond our wildest dreams. We knew we’d make progress because we’ve got a good manager, good players and good honest people working at the club, as well as a terrific fan base,” said Fletcher.
