Surely Robson's ready for a first start now, Eddie

IF JUSTICE prevails in the coming weeks, 29-year-old Dan Robson will surely make his first start for England after 12 appearances off the bench.

Robson, one of the Premiership’s most consistent scrum-halves over the last decade at first Gloucester and now Wasps, has been under-used by Eddie Jones since his first training squad call-up five years ago.

He has fared better than his father Simon, who failed to make it off the England bench five times three decades ago, but has still amassed only 261 minutes in a Red Rose jersey.

This year Robson has been Jones’ second choice behind Ben Youngs, who has ruled himself out of the Tests against Canada and America for family reasons.

Robson should be next in line, but it takes a brave man to second guess the notoriously unpredictable Jones.

Reflecting on his England career so far, Robson told The Rugby Paper: “It’s been pretty mixed, I guess. When you look at it overall it has been okay but there is a lot of room for me to grow and definitely put some big performances in.
