Says grounding aircraft will hit air travel; holds meeting with IndiGo and GoAir
-
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Wednesday about 40 percent of the domestic seat capacity is powered by the New Engine Option (NEO) Pratt and Whitney PW1100G-JM engines and, therefore, any knee-jerk reaction to questions on its safety will have “serious consequences”.
Pratt and Whitney (PW) has been asked to ensure easy availability of spare engines to airlines and the aviation regulator will take the harshest action if the need arises, it added.
At present, IndiGo and GoAir operate 127 Airbus A-320 aircraft which contain these engines.
