Accuses Trinamool workers of vandalism, says the reformer was an icon of the entire nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday accused Trinamool Congress “goondas” of vandalising the bust of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in violence during BJP president Amit Shah’s roadshow in Kolkata. He promised to install a “grand statue,” made of panchaloh (five metals), of the Bengali reformer on the same spot.
Addressing a rally in Mau in eastern Uttar Pradesh, he alleged that Trinamool workers indulged in hooliganism. “Such people should be given the harshest of punishments,” he said.
Mau falls in the Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency that goes to the polls on May 19.
