Sridhar Sivaram's wildlife conservation photography won him a Nikon Z 611, which he took on a tour of India's National Parks

Photographing animals in the wild requires a lot of patience and a keen understanding of animal behavior. Moments come and go in a split second: if you're not prepared, the chance of a lifetime is gone. Last year I entered the Wildlife Vets International Stories of Survival photo competition - and my image of a leopard colliding with a motorbike was the overall winner. I was subsequently presented with a Nikon Z 611 and a Z 24-70mm f/4 S, and was eager to test out the mirrorless camera's capabilities. It has accompanied me across India, where I photographed elephants, birds, and tigers...

Park life

My image of a tiger in a tree [1] was taken in January 2022. We were in the Jim Corbett National Park, on the foothills of the Himalayas. It was already a cold afternoon, but things got worse when it started to rain. The temperature was around five or six degrees Celsius, but it seemed more like zero!
