Robin Uthappa, who was one of the heroes of India‘s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph in South Africa, has recalled an exchange he had with Shoaib Akhtar. “I’ll share one story about Shoaib Akhtar. We were playing a game in Guwahati. After 34 overs, we used to get a ball that used to be 24 overs old but slightly better. Shoaib was bowling and Irfan and I were batting. We needed 3 or 4 runs to win and I told myself, ‘Man, I have to walk out to Shoaib Akhtar and hit him. How many times will I get that opportunity?’ He bowled a length ball and I did it; it took the edge and it went for four. We won the match,” he said.

ASHWIN WARNS PEOPLE OF COVID-19

Despite government’s talk of positivity amid Covid-19, the ground situation remains grim. R Ashwin, who had to leave the IPL 2021 mid-way due to the emergence of the Covid-19 cases within his family, has warned the people of Tamil Nadu. The veteran spinner took to Twitter and shared a thread on the prevailing situation in his state. Apart from sharing the thread, he also warned people. “And for all those saying, it’s scary and don’t spread scary stuff. PLEASE BE SCARED, VERY SCARED and that’s the only way we can fight this. We need to be on war footing defence against this virus,” he wrote. Unlike many of his teammates, R Ashwin is using his Twitter handle to help people in distress.
