Brunt Gives England A Platform To Build On

IT was not what they went out to India for but England Women at least finished on a high as they battled to victory in the third one-day international in Mumbai.
Skipper Heather Knight had spoken of making history and winning a first-ever bilateral series in India, but those hopes were quickly scuppered by two big defeats.
Instead it was India who made it successive 2-1 series victories against the English since losing the World Cup final to Knight and Co at Lord’s in 2017.
The prospect of a whitewash was avoided, however, as Katherine Brunt starred with bat and ball in a thriller that England won by two wickets.
The 33-year-old took 5-28 as India were restricted to 205-8 despite a 129-run second-wicket partnership between Smriti Mandhana (66) and Punam Raut (56).
Brunt then chipped in with 18 as England’s lower order came through, Danni Wyatt making 56 and Georgia Elwiss an unbeaten 33.
