Perfectly Imperfect
Australian Women’s Weekly NZ|February 2019

New Year is done and dusted and those resolutions may also be getting a little dusty – but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Jo Seagar
Perfectly Imperfect

How are your New Year resolutions going? That long list of self-improvements seemed so feasible on December 31 but now I’m finding it all a bit of a hard slog. Eat better, drink less, exercise more, join the gym, de-clutter… I had all the usual things on my list of good intentions, but now I’ve decided it’s time to redefine my goals.

I’ve decided to simplify things and just embrace the concept of being me. I’m not going for “a better me” or “the new improved me”; I’m basically just cutting myself some slack and being kinder to myself. This is not about easing up on the gym work, nor is it an excuse to have another biscuit or, as has been known in the past, to finish the whole packet. It’s a general undertaking of self-love and an acceptance approach to my life.

I had lovely long discussions over the holidays with a close friend, both of us lying on sun loungers at the beach with a chilled pinot gris in hand, which really enhanced the brainstorming process. We came up with the idea of refining our lives – doing fewer things better, along with accepting we’re good enough already.
