Meghan & Harry are favouring privacy over public fanfare
When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, married into the royal family, she had to relinquish control over many aspects of her life and follow certain protocols, whether she liked it or not.
But now, when it comes to one of the most important experiences she’ll ever have – giving birth – Meghan is putting her foot down and doing things her way.
With the full support of her doting husband Prince Harry, the mum-to-be has decided to turn her back on traditions followed by other royal mums, such as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
For starters, there will be no photocall on the steps of the hospital to show off the newborn bundle of joy – and, in fact, Meghan may not even give birth in hospital.
Meghan (37) and Harry (34) are so keen to keep details of the birth private that it could be hours or even a day before anyone outside of family, close friends and medical staff knows that little Baby Sussex has arrived.
Buckingham Palace has issued a statement saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.
“Their royal highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had the opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
A royal source says, “They want a couple of hours just to enjoy being parents for the first time before the rest of the world is told. It’s perfectly natural as it’s such an important moment in anyone’s life. They are both in complete agreement that they don’t want any outside distractions and want to savour every moment as a new family that they can.”
