In theory, fat loss is a simple, scientific equation for most of the population.
We know that if energy output is greater than energy input over a consistent period, then weight loss will occur.
In reality, however, as a personal trainer I’ve seen that fat loss and a person’s ability to lose weight is rarely an ‘if A is greater than B it equals C’, one-size-fits-all, solution. The ability to lose weight and keep it off is more often a multidimensional, complicated maze that you may need help navigating your way through to succeed.
What this reality highlights is the need for PTs and health professionals to treat your individual health and fitness goals in a holistic manner. In order for us to create the ideal structure for you to achieve and maintain your goals, you need to work on building and strengthening all four pillars of health and wellbeing — physical, social, emotional, and mental health — which create a perfect environment for this success.
PHYSICAL HEALTH
This factor is often the sole focus in any weight-loss journey as it is arguably the easiest to ‘deal with’. Why? Because it is the one factor that you can ‘outsource’ to a third party rather than take responsibility for yourself. You can hire an expert to write a food plan, prepare your meals, construct an exercise plan, and so on — all designed to support your physical health goals.
This pillar also provides the most tangible results that you can measure and evaluate, as well as being the one that people will notice and comment on the most when you’re getting it right.
And yet, physical health is just one pillar to address, one piece of your complicated puzzle.
