I could perceive the sound of the music loud and clear as I struggled to get a parking slot free. Three rounds later, around the hotel I managed to locate a place for my car to rest. It was my best friend’s maiden centennial completed fruitfully. I was happy for her, though I couldn’t still make myself believe that she was already married.

Two years ago, with a year into college she fell in love with a guy who I felt was a misfit to be addressed as a boyfriend, especially for a person like her. Though I was happy for my friend I didn’t want her to suffer grief in life. I tried to hint at unsuitability and reflect the true image. But she claimed to be madly in love with the guy and so did he with her. I didn’t want to be the reason for the rift in their relationship and made my unsettled thought settle down.

Era was academically oriented and aspired to be a professor at a foreign university, whereas her love Viyan was the offspring of wealthy parents. His dad was a local goon. Viyan reflected traces of his dad and his siblings and was responsible for violent acts on the college campus. He didn’t fare well academically nor excelled in extra curricular activities. His behaviour pointed his future to the direction which could destroy that of Era. His admission and survival in college was thanks to his parents’ reputation and standing in society which, according to a layman, is not worth possessing.
