Many of you might cringe at the thought of taking BMW's retro R 12 nineT on the challenging track of Cadwell Park. The notion even elicited some chuckles from the experienced riders in the fast group, when they saw me line up with the BMW. My goal, however, wasn't to set blistering lap times or push the bike to its limits. I simply wanted to enjoy my Beemer in a controlled, safe environment and gain a deeper understanding of its multi-adjustable suspension.
The plan was straightforward: ride approximately 70 miles to Cadwell Park, join the fast group, and start with a completely standard set-up. As the day progressed, I would gradually adapt the Beemer to the track and see where it took us. The first task, though, was fitting the mandatory brake guard a minor hassle, more due to my own doing than any fault of BMW.
